House cleaning party

Well, it wasn't really a party but Sarah's mom joined us this weekend to help prep for our wedding reception party next Saturday. We made a list of things to do earlier this week and set out to accomplish what we could yesterday and today. This is particularly timely since we're on the verge of getting a new house of our very own so this cleaning won't be for not. It's busy times here in the current Freitas household with house hunting and reception party plans mixed in among Sarah's recently ended class, my freelance web work and whatever else happens to come up outside our normal work day.

We also went out to the local Lowes hardware store to have a preemptive look at some appliances with which we'd like to furnish our current candidate house. Although it's easy to drop a few thousand dollars on said pieces of hardware it seems like mere change when compared to buying a house that's nearly a quarter of a million dollars in price. Nevertheless, we found some appliances we'd certainly be happy to purchase but we just need to hear back about said house before we can move forward. Our hopes are that tomorrow word will be given and we can move forward toward moving in. Cross your fingers for us.

Oh, and I need to voice my opinion on the ever pervasive Terri Schiavo case that's bubbling around America currently. Why the hell does the United States Congress, House and the President need to get involved?! The lovely Republicans that grow from the state of Florida and from the hip of the President (see Jeb) have turned a tragic family dispute into a right to life, abortion echoing case. First of all, this has nothing to do with abortion and anyone's right to life. Second, over a dozen doctors have determined this poor woman has no life to look forward to nor is even aware as such. The family and husband should settle this in a local or state court (which they have -- the husband has repeatedly prevailed) and this story should barely reach higher than the local news in Florida. Instead, our Congress and House have made some legislation to keep this woman alive and the President hurried back to Washington from yet another vacation to sign the bill. Funny, but why can't our legislative bodies move faster when issues that concern our entire country are put before us?

I also want to sound off about the oxymorons present in all of this. If Republicans are suppose to be so "in" with God why wouldn't they let Terri's life be put into His hands rather than in a machines'? Why if they believe in life so much do Republicans want to fry people and inject them with deadly drugs to administer the death penalty? Why the hell does all the crazy, political news in this country come out of Florida? And, finally, why can't we lob the two states off our continent/country that seem to cause all the political problems: Florida and the lower half of Texas? Oye, I'm done.
