I'm not too sexy

What can I say? I just don't feel sexy. Last night Holly, Gavin, Sarah and I spent an evening together on the town. Gav recommended the Rainforest Cafe for dinner and it was great. Were it not for the fact that they actually donate money to help conserve the rainforests of the world, I'd say the place was a bit overkill. I don't think one bare wall shown through the decor of leaves, vines, and animatronic animals. The periodic thunderstorm that rumbled through the restaurant and seemed to excite the nearby fau-elephants were a treat. Aside from having a waitress that seemed to enjoy recommending what we should and should not eat it was a great place where the food is good and the atmosphere is great.

On to Seattle. We headed downtown to a bar/club called The Last Supper. Holly had a list of salsa clubs around the area that provide lessons beforehand and this was one of them. We paid our cover and displayed our ID and headed downstairs to the salsa lessons. But no one except the instructor and audio techs were there. Our instructor, Dennis, began to walk us through the basic salsa step as other students joined the crowd. Unfortunately for me and my own personal fun factor, Dennis didn't seem to believe in teaching things on step at a time as I soon found him expecting that I know how to do a move that included at least three different parts. I'm a "one-at-a-time please" kind of dancer – especially while learning.

I got frustrated while my feet constantly tried to mimic the steps Sarah and I learned in our mostly swing-based ballroom dancing class of two years ago. We danced a few songs then sat out the rest of the time and talked. Gavin and Holly were gracious enough to try and provide some help but, after another try on the further crowded dance floor, I gave up for the night. Sarah and I chatted while our two companions kicked up their heels for a little longer. My conclusion from the evening was that I should have nothing to do with a dance that involves so much passion in one's persona. I don't feel like the sensual nature of salsa dancing fits me at all. Even once I knew the steps I just felt like I was forcing myself to be way to serious on the dance floor. After talking about it for a while, Sarah and I decided to find a place to take swing dance lessons. I just feel like that style isn't surrounded by such a serious air which, for me, makes having fun easy.

Sorry ladies. No latin lover in here. Just good old fashioned geek with a pension for a swing beat.

We drove back to Tacoma and stopped at the local QFC to pick up a late night ice cream snack. I had a fantastic night just enjoying the company of Gavin, Holly and Sare and I hope (knowing how proficient a dancer Holly is) we didn't dissappoint at all. I'd hate to think that because I didn't care for that form of dance Holly was unhappy in any way.

Oh my gosh! I've not read this entry before, Kevin! You have nothing to worry about. It was enjoyable evening despite all of that. If swing is your thing, we should make it a date--I haven't gotten Gavin onto the dance floor since that night, and I think he'd like swing better, too. Any kind works for me.
