Love and marriage

Today was the day Sarah and I became one another's spouse. After some an ordeal that began yesterday with a dose of freezing rain in the Portland area, today we tied the knot in front of a group of our close family and friends. Everyone started bustling about Skamania Lodge this morning about 8am. Sarah's hair and makeup were done by her Mom and sister Stephanie. A woman that worked for the lodge came in early this morning to do Sarah's nails. Meanwhile, I stood by in a pretty mellow tone helping coordinate some last minute details as well as prep myself mentally and physically. Matt eventually joined me in our suite where we relaxed a bit before the ladies arrived to finalize their dress. Once my dad helped me tie a proper full Windsor knot we snapped some photos with our photographer then headed down to the ballroom for our grand entrance.

Once the ceremony started time pretty much warped out of sync with reality. My Uncle Lanny acted as minister and opened with some words about Sarah and I and why we felt our marriage depended on the support and influence of everyone present (and not present, for that matter). From there Matt and Mandy spoke and brought us both easily to tears that seemed to choke us up through the vows we wrote and read to one another. Before I knew it the rings were on our fingers, we lit everyone's candle that was there, then were pronounced a married couple.

We shot some mix-n-match photos with friends and family in the lodge's magnificent fireplace room then joined the whole group for a filling dinner, some great cake, a bit of dancing, and finally the bouquet and garter tosses. Then, as soon as it seemed to begin, it was over. Everyone now had to check out of their rooms then head back along one iced over highway or another.

Sarah and I had a fantastic time sharing our wedding with everyone and we completely understood the weather-related difficulties that kept some of our friends from joining us today. We hope everyone felt as included and honored in our special day as we wanted them to be and that everyone had a chance to spend quality time with the new bride and groom. We were thrilled that everything could take place so smoothly despite Mother Nature's attempts to throw an ice-covered curve ball our way. Thanks for everyone's help and moral support along with the love that swirled about this entire weekend. We know how much we mean to all of you and hope you know the same is true in the other direction.

We leave for Costa Rica tomorrow and will make sure to post notes on our time out there as well as more photos than you can shake a mouse at.

Bring back a monkey for me from Costa Rica! I prefer non-biting, shoulder-riding monkeys, preferably house-trained as well... Seriously, though. Congratulations. You and Sarah make a fantastic team.

Yippe! Congratulations on your wedding. I was so worried for a minute when I saw all the freezing rain, but I'm glad find out that you prevailed! Have a smashing time in Costa Rica!

Congrats, and as long as you're bringing things back from Costa Rica would you bring me a banana tree?

Maybe the monkey could live in the tree?

Ah, for those you must join us at a reception. We'll likely be having one up here in Tacoma sometime in the next month or so. We'll have many a photo of the wedding prep, wedding proper, and honeymoon. Stay tuned...

How random that I decided to peruse your site, and discovered that you two have just been married-- two days after Kelley Brandt and I were wondering whether such a commitment had been made... Congratulations, Kevin and Sarah-- I'm sure it was beautiful.

Thanks so much, Wendy. I was just thinking of you today when listening to a story on KPLU about Hanford. Something about a nuclear-powered vocalist from the area or something. ;) Shoot me an email or IM sometime!

Kevin, I ran into your site randomly while chatting with Doris Doyon about Wendy Gilles and Kelley Brandt. We are both so happy to hear this news!!! You guys are the two most awesome, loving people that I know! You both deserve so much, and now you both have it. Please give me a buzz and let me know how things are. I'll be sure to make contact with you. So here is to Flyin' Freitas, and the divine Mrs. F!!! Dabba, dabba, dabba. What do you mean "what?"

Awesome! My 6th sense works again! We're gearing up to send out invites to folks for a wedding reception on March 26 and I was going to call you this week to get your address. So, I'll call (or email) you to chat and get that info.

I like who I am when I'm around you.
