Making a house happen
As of a just a few minutes ago our Realtor confirmed that the selling agent has only one clarification to add to our offer before we can move forward. Sarah and I are getting a house! Once everything is initialed and ready we begin pulling the remaining pieces together. Here, mostly for our sanity, is the list:
x schedule home inspection
x research insurance
- provide remaining info for our loan to finalize
x look at appliances
x have house appraised
x determine whether or not addition gas can be run for new appliances
x schedule contractor to look at floors
x determine DSL availability
- re-schedule phone hook-up and DSL activation
- inventory belongings
- clean rental house basement
- move in! (tentative for weekend of Apr. 23, also Sarah's Birthday)
And much, I'm sure, much more. We're so very excited to get into this place and hope the remaining steps will come together with minimal difficulties.
Update - It's ours if we want it (2005-03-22)
Today we signed off on the final clarifications desired by the selling party and now the house is ours if everything goes through on our loans and the inspection doesn't turn anything scary up. It feels good to move forward on this and we're looking forward to the next steps.

Congratulations are most definitely in order!! May the nails and hammer be at your mercy, may the roof not need replacing, may the new appliances be shiny!
I can't wait to see it this weekend (even if it's a sneak peek through the front window)...

Congratulations to you and Sarah on taking a major step forward. Even considering the endless maintenance tasks, insurance, mortgage et al, your own house is a great platform to build dreams from.

I was 100% sure you would get it. Had a good feeling about it. Still a few hurtles to jump but you are almost there. How fun. First house and a nice one. My truck will be available to haul stuff.

CONGRATS!! I am very happy for you and I know how excited you are. Good luck with the loan finalizing. Our underwriters had some very weird requests so be prepared to not understand why they want some random piece of info. It looks like a great house especially for a first.

Congrats!
Yeah, from what I hear bankers absolutely refuse to finalize home loans without leaving at least one scary, cryptic message on your answering machine. I think they do it to test your resolve. Those of weak character do not deserve a home loan. I am sure everything will work out perfectly and you will be very happy in your new home.
