McCabe's in deep with police, City
The News Tribune is reporting this morning that McCabe's has had its power shut off and is operating under a temporary liquor license. The article is somewhat confusing but gives info about them getting caught selling liquor to a minor. That explains the suspension but is it customary to have the power shut off for such a violation? Seems like no matter the case the Powers That Be want the place shut down and will be getting some extra time before the license is renewed to back up a request that it not be.
Is McCabe's a dangerous place or just the target of a night life-related witch hunt?

The fire department also performed a surprise inspection on Saturday night and found several violations, so they closed it down that night and sent everyone home.
Lakewood and other cities have used similar tactics to get rid of businesses that they feel were causing problems.

The power was cut off for alledged violation of safety code for electrical issues.
There was another article that I thought I read that discussed this but the one you link to doesn't mention it.
Here it is from King 5 news "Violations included exposed wiring and open junction boxes."

McCabes was a place where people let loose and had fun. Where else could you see such a gathering of straw hat rednecks and grimy gangster wannabe types all square dancing together? McCabes was unique and will be missed. The Tacoma/Lakewood bar shooting scene will continue its circuit as usual.
The city obviously has other plans for that piece of land.

I gotta side with dongdaemun on this one. Closing McCabes isn't going to solve the problem. It's not going to stop shootings, it's just going to move them to a place that the city doesn't have plans for.

Yea, that's totally true. Having problems like that in our community is a symptom of a larger issue.
With its proximity to the Sounder extension project I would imagine having access to that space could prove helpful to the project in one form or another. It just won't serve any of the construction workers while they're carving up SoDo.

I agree that the 'visit' was targeted, but I don't buy the conspiracy theories. Why would the city not use eminant domain laws if they wanted the property for the Sounder project?
The targeting of McCabe's seems to me to be more because of the complaints of neighbors and frequent problems with patrons (and those seeking retaliation against the patrons).
If the owner did store boxes near the boiler, and there is exposed wiring, should the business remain open to an unsuspecting public?

Its a bit straight forward and simple to be called a conspiracy theory. Id call it business as usual. Its not that hard to believe. ED laws would most likely require compensation anyway.
So who are the neighbors complaining? its not in a residential area. If anyone lives over there I would suggest to get the hell out right away. There are many cheap apartments around here in safer areas.
That area is full of trouble and everyone knows it, has been for many years. Removing Mccabes isnt going to change that.
If some boxes next to a boiler and wires on the outside of a wall scare you that much then you ought to stay home in your bomb shelter anyway.

Conspiracy theories are definitely more fun. ;) As I've mentioned before, however, another dead place in a dead zone doesn't help anything.

Maybe they will, but they want to knock the market value down some first?
Personally, I'm all in favor of an anti-nightlife 'witch hunt'... especially if it is targeted on establishments where the clientèle wears baggy pants.
