Narrows bridge lights

Kathleen Merryman has an article in today's Trib about some informal local efforts to keep the new and old Narrows Bridges lit up. I had the pleasure of snapping some night photos of construction lights on the new bridge and they make for a stunning sight. Seems folks with a view of the bridge enjoy showing off the temporarily lit span:

"It's just too fun," [Desa Gese] said of taking guests out onto her deck and listening to their reaction. "Everyone we talk to says we have to keep them. I think it gives spirit to the city. I think it sends a message."

I, too, was stunned when one evening last October I drove up over a hill in Westgate and saw the immense sway back shaped outline of the new bridge. The scale was brilliant and I immediately thought of what a stunning icon it was. I even corresponded a bit with a woman who works for the company that provided the lights who was excited to see my photos of it. I know I'm not alone in snapping photos of it but how could you not want to?

It'll be fun to keep my eyes out for any word or serious thought given to lighting the bridges. Seems like the installation price tag will hover around $1 million and cost $50-100K a year to light. They might even consider LED arrays so the colors could be changed anytime. I'm totally in -- although I certainly can't foot the entire bill. Anyone else game?
