Plant Wanted: Comment Within

Since moving to a new job half my time there was in one office and, as of September's end, half in a new one. Once everything was organized and cleaned I realized I needed a little something else to bring some life to the new place. A plant. We have a few plants near the entry to our office but that's about it. Our desks are cool metal and frosted glass tables from Ikea. Although sleek and image-forming (like we wanted it) I want to bring some color to my workspace as well as something to cover up the few wires that mar said modern look.

So, I ask for advice from my loyal readers (hi mom!). Have a look at the following pics and let me know of any good, green plants that like indirect light that would fill the space behind my computer nicely.

Thanks in advance for the advice and I'm looking forward to buying something next week. Cheers!

i highly recommend a spider plant in a colourful pot (not a terracotta pot though!). they are really hard to kill, will grow rapidly and are fun to watch grow shoots, and could trail behind or below your computer. They also won't grow too high so you can't see over it. They grow best in indirect light, so you would want to keep it out of direct sunlight. I have one on top of our fridge, and it is lovely.

best of all, you could single-handedly populate the office with plants from the baby plants it will shoot out! and no kitties to nibble on it!

Thanks for the suggestion, sis. I thought about a spider plant but wanted something a bit leafier so I snagged a philodendron yesterday at a local plant shop. It has large, green, heart-shaped leaves and acts to purify the air a bit as well.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Hope all is well -- it's rainy here but hopefully it won't dampen the spirits of Hallween tonight (because I can't eat all that candy myself!).

For a desk plant, I hear that poison oak is very lovely this time of year...

But in all seriousness, I love your new digs! Your desk is very upscale, I love the tabletop. Hopefully, the sunshine from your huge window won't tempt you to take afternoons off. I know that the Bend sunshine tempts me way too often...

Not so much this time of year, Mandy, but I hear ya. I'll have to snap some photos now that we have some greenery and all of the moving materials are out the door. Sarah likes it so much over here she's threatened -- uh, promised she might come mooch off our wireless and work here once in a while.

Though you have already selected an office plant, the carnivorous plants collection at ThinkGeek is quite entertaining and would make a very interesting conversation piece. It has venus fly traps. Mwahaha.
