Party after party

With the infamous Matt Turner in town and his birthday coming up tomorrow we met up with him, Kelly and his sister Kari for lunch and a movie. That same night we partied hard at a Halloween party put on by Sarah's co-worker and wife Jeff and Donna. Sarah and I had a great time at both occasions. With Matt we played a bit of catch-up and I was happy to finally meet his sister who, up until now, I thought was a complete myth (keep in mind I've known matt for over 10 years). Anyway, she was a great woman that is easily just as creative and brilliant as her brother. We enjoyed a Thai food place in Tukwila and had some fun watching Matt open the various random gifts Kari compiled for him. From there we went to see Corpse Bride. We really enjoyed how stunningly beautiful the stop-motion came off in Tim Burton's latest film. Some of the detail in character's faces and clothing (especially the bride's veil and dress) were unbelievable. Unfortunately the story and setting were very much like Nightmare Before Christmas and the ending seemed a bit hacked on. It was kind of a musical but I think half-way through filming they decided against it for some reason as I can only remember one or two songs all together. My bet is those will be a play for a Best Original Song Oscar and that's about it.

Once we parted ways with that group Sarah finalized prep for some food she made for the party we attended tonight. I put on a borrowed costume as did Sarah (except the wig was from an old costume of hers) and we were off! Once at Jeff and Donna's place we were impressed by all the decorations and both their costumes. The night was a fun one filled with tons of food, some great appropriately themed games, and a viewing of the cult, horror/comedy Shaun of the Dead which was, by the way, great. Thanks to our hosts for a great evening and a couple great game prizes which included a gorgeous bottle of homemade black and blueberry wine.

As a side note, even though we got home around 1am this morning I pined at the clear skies and Mars directly overhead and wanted badly, if not for my fatigue from the day, to haul out the telescope. Clear fall nights can be incredible for astronomy and since it's been over a year since our last observations, I want to get back into it.
