Photos ~ Farewell, Lulu

After many tears from her daddy (a.k.a. me) this afternoon Lulu was put to sleep. She grew slim over the last few months but shortly after I dropped her off for my parents to watch her while I'm away in Scotland she deteriorated. My parents were more than loving and I thank them for having her looked at but everyone agreed after the diagnosis that it was her time to go. So, despite an amazingly busy week getting ready to leave on a plane tomorrow, I headed down and back to Woodland today.

I followed my dad from their house with Lulu in her carrier in my car toward the vet. She was very low on energy not having wanted to eat in a few days but she managed to rub up against my fingers as they reached in to touch her. I think she knew and she was ready. I think she wanted me to be OK. The vet was extremely sweet and soon enough my baby was gone. My dad then took her home to lay her to rest in a great spot on their property in the sunshine. She was a California kitty originally before my sister and her husband gave her to Sarah and I. Loved fresh orange, sunshine, bananas, etc. She was a total fuss-bucket too that generally got what she wanted but certainly had a way with everyone (especially men) she met.

I love you and miss you Lulu. My sweet little girl. Rest easy. Thank you for allowing us all into your life. I hope you enjoyed it!   :)

It's tough saying goodbye to pets. They are family, too.

My dear friend,

As your friend you know how animals are an interrogate part my life. My heart goes out to you. As guardians of these treasured loved ones it’s our responsibility to our best friends to love, feed, keep warm, and when the time comes let them go. Trust me it's never easy making the decision. And I suppose it’s not supposed to. It allows us to reflect on all the cherished and loving memories we have of our pets before we send them to their resting place. Lulu was certainly one of a kind; she stole my heart from our very first encounter. I’m so very thankful you were able to be with her in the end. Be strong my friend and when the time comes don’t be afraid to shed a few more tears when needed.

You’re Friend,
Steve

I'm glad we got a chance to talk before you left town. LuLu was such a sweet kitty. I'll miss sitting on your couch and whistling for her.

I'm so, so sorry, Kevin. I haven't lost a pet in a long time but it isn't hard to recall the ache. Matt says he will bury a pair of socks for her. I hope you and Colby can take care of each other.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my own little black kitty this year - he was 20 years old but it's never enough time. It's obvious Lulu was loved and had a good life.
