Photos ~ Inaugural reverse Sounder commute to Tacoma
Todd Matthews, of Tacoma Daily Index fame and a daily commuter from Seattle, took a journey on the first reverse Sounder train to Tacoma this morning. He liked the ride but not the arrival times. Here's a couple bullets.
Good things:
- I forgot how nice it is to ride a train
- Empty train (vs. crowded express buses)
- Nice view of Mt. Rainier at sunrise
- Souvenir travel tags handed out by ST staffers
- It's another commute option that doesn't involve driving my car
Not-so-good things:
- Woke up at 4:30 a.m., caught a 5:15 a.m. bus to downtown Seattle, and caught the train at 6:10 a.m., only to arrive in downtown Tacoma at 7:10 a.m. A long morning of commuting, and work starts at 8:00 a.m., so there was 50 minutes to kill. 7:10 is a strange arrival time.
- Low turnout that hopefully won't discourage Sound Transit from keeping this reverse commute running
Todd thinks that given time and perhaps a slightly more reasonable arrival time this option will be a success. Thanks for the perspective and photos, Todd, and happy commuting to you!
