Photos ~ Matador restaurant metal work

A new restaurant will be gracing the corner of 8th and Pacific soon. The Matador, as it'll be known, brought in some impressive metal work to greet people to their restaurant. The Pacific facing corner is now covered with a nearly 20' tall black metal archway. It features winding and knarly flame like patterns, a couple what appear to be torches, some silvery accents, and what looks like a spot for a sign on top. It should be pretty stunning when and if the torches spit real fire but I certainly hope visitors take a look at the craftsmanship and artistry that went into this gem of something like $15,000.

What more? It's nice to see new businesses willing to invest that kind of money in something so relatively non-essential downtown. In a way, it kinda' shows that Tacoma's worth it.

Everyone is getting excited for Matador opening. This is the most money being spent on a restaurant in the north end of downtown Tacoma and our first Asada type restaurant. It is to be high end mexican food.

Next to the Matador will be Urban Tanning Salon (or something like that) and a real estate office that is supposed to have a model for a condo being built.

I saw the tanning place's banner this morning. Strange that it had what looked like a US Air Force jet symbol on it.

Man, those are some beatiful "vertical mounting assets" they've put up.

While I know this is an old post, anyone know who did the metal work? I may be in the market for some custom work.

I've been to the Matador in Ballard and besides the awesome metalwork, they have tables with fancy inlays that go with the theme. It's nice to see a business put the effort into the details. The food is good too; it's the only calamari my wife will eat.

Is the owners of the matador also the owners of the restaurant Pesos down in the Queen Anne area of Seattle ? The menu is an exact dot on as well as the decor minus a fire pit and some beams. In any event i love them both but pesos do have a better happy hour and cooks.
