Photos ~ PAX 2006
Sarah and I started out weekends early Friday afternoon by driving up to Bellevue to join throngs of other gamers at an expo just for us. The Penny Arcade Expo was a real kick this year especially since we were able to make it for two of the event's three days. Briefly (since I'd rather label the photos I took) we attended some great panel discussions, met up and hung out with a couple college friends, played mass amounts of DS, waited in a couple lengthy lines, heard four great concerts, and played yet more DS.
Thanks to Gabe and Tycho and all the folks over at Penny Arcade for putting on a killer event! Oh, and Tycho, seriously, kudos on the Sumo bags -- they totally made PAX for me.
So, yeah, can't wait 'til next year! See everyone at the Seattle Convention Center!

Nice.
Your pictures remind me of when I ventured down to the underground lair of the head quarters of wizards of the coast in the U District in Seattle.
It was wild. Hundreds of black shirted youth playing Magic, D&D games everywhere, dozens of networked computers with legions of people staring into them. In short, a type of geek heaven.
The Wizards of the Coast headquarters was kinda cool though. The had a huge grand entrance that made it look like some medieval dungeon with statues of their heroes surrounding the place.
Then the interactive games got big and I have since lost a couple of friends to Everquest and like games.

Yeah, we're definitely among the moderate bunch of gamers. Sarah and I loves us some games but rarely have time to invest in ones with lengthy story arcs. Instead we love old skool nintendo and other simple games and absolutely have a great time playing games together and with other people on our DS.
Anyone out there have a DS? Should we have a coffee and Mario Kart kinda' get together sometime? Let me know!

"Sarah and I loves us some games but rarely have time to invest in ones with lengthy story arcs."
That's good. I loved the old arcade games and even finished a couple. I think I played all of the Zelda games but ended after finishing Zelda N64 and Goldeneye, two of the best games ever.
The good thing about them is they had endings and were broken into segments. Most online games now require near total immersion.
Its a good thing you have not indulged in EQ type games much as the players often lose their lose their marriages and jobs after a month or two of playing (or worse):

I wanted to make it to PAX this year but work got in the way. Nice pics, those big chairs are awesome.
Have a DS but it isn't getting much use right now. We have a few games but it just hasn't caught on in our house.
I've been into new Xbox360 games like Dead Rising (killing zombies = teh win!!11!) and have been sucked back into Everquest II when time permits.
Our house is a gamers paradise for me and my boys, not so much for my wife. :) We've got at least one of every console and have a few computers on the LAN when we wanna fire up UT2004.

Is the girl who is, i assume, being proposed to crying, or getting ready to vomit because she's being proposed to at PAX?
by Fitzyroo

Fitzyroo: I'm pretty sure she was crying and actually accepted. After leaving the stage she promptly smashed a DS over his head and told him never to do anything like that to her again. Yeah, she'll do just fine with the whole marriage thing.

It's a hard balance; gaming and marriage.
It's like Chris Rock said: If you're a crack addict, she's gotta be a crack addict too.

Fitzyroo: Indeed. In that category I consider myself lucky. You should've seen my lady obsess over each disc in the PoP series! Sometimes she out-nerds, and out-games me by a long shot!

OMG Kevin you went to PAX too!?!?!??!
The Minibosses rocked! I wish I would have seen you there. Awh, well... here's to next year.

Chris: The Minibosses did rock! We'll have to get a Tacoma-themed group up at next year's PAX.
In the meantime, do you have a DS?

Do I have a DS? no. I have a couple of friends that work at Gamestop that have been edging me on to get one. Right now I'm saving up to go to Cuba with school.
I love the idea of a Tacoma-themed group at PAX next year.
