Photos ~ Newly remodeled Corina Bakery
Thanks goodness their phone message was right. Though it said they'd be opening again "Monday" I wasn't entirely sure which Monday they meant. Well, today is the day and you can now get your sweet tooth fix again at Corina Bakery near the corner of 6th and Tacoma. I had a brief chat with owner Walt Gaya who with wife Jessica run the bakery that bears their daughter's name. He said they first foolishly thought the remodel and expansion would take only a week. A month and a broken water pipe that caused minor issues for three floors of the building they're in later, they're relieved to be open. And they should be proud 'cause the space looks really great.
Take a look at the photos of their space below then look back at what it used to be. Seems like a good move to me. Sarah doesn't know this yet but she scored a slice of red velvet cake from my visit. Not to mention that the color on their walls kinda' makes me feel like I'm happily inside a piece myself. ;)

The changes are crazy! It's a whole new place! I just thought they were expanding a bit but they've created a whole new persona for themselves. We'll definitely need to make a trip there soon.

Wowee Wow Wow Wow! I cannot wait to go. This is fantastic. I didn't think I could love Corina any more, but apparently I will now.

Three of us stopped by 20 minutes before closing tonight. I had a slice of their three berry cheesecake and it was awesome. Not too sweet or heavy and the berries tasted really fresh.
I could also see why they remodeled 'cause with on 15 minutes to spare before close nearly 20 people stopped by, most of which ate it there! Not too shabby for a specialized urban neighborhood eatery.

Too good to be true. And now a great place to hang out as well. They made a cappuccino very well.
With the Temple and Kickstand coming online, this area of Tacoma is becoming the independent coffee center of the city.

Deb: Just called over there and they're open 'til 7 tonight as usual. I know there's been a shift in ownership but it seems they're still alive and kickin'.
