New restaurant coming soon to 23rd & Pacific
Downtown is slowly creeping southward as a new restaurant is set to open at the corner of Pacific and 23rd. The spot has been under renovation for months and is now looking pretty finished. County records show it's use code as fast food but was formerly Snubber's Fish and Friends pet shop but with the addition business name of Sandy's Restaurant (that old Chicago sub place?). I contacted the building's owner and he confirmed that it will be a "locally owned and operated restaurant".
Hard to believe that a pet shop and restaurant live(d) there at the same time so I'm betting it'll become Sandy's. As I mentioned, progress looks good and is apparently good enough that the owner also said it's opening next month. A nice diner or breakfast place (what do you think it'll be?) would fit this corner of town really well and would certainly be a place I'd walk to from work now and then. Stay tuned...
Pushing South
With retail space getting gobble up and/or more expensive in the heart of downtown this may urge businesses down Pacific toward the hill. Filling in some of the empty spots near 21 Commerce and other dead zones will work nicely once the new Sounder tracks aid in cleaning up the area around 26th and 27th. This is all particularly encouraging because our office is just off 28th and we could sure use some good spots for a bite or a warm drink without having to resort to Jack in the Box or snacks at the Elephant Carwash.

Don't know the type of place but that would seem to fit the locale well.

Give Jack a run for his money. But how will they treat the transients who congregate in that area?

23rd isn't quite as bad as 24th and 25th so hopefully there won't be much of a problem. Our office is on 27th and, during the day at least, we don't have a problem at all.
