<brrrrrrrrrring!> Goes the bell

With mighty swoop (and a couple days of on-and-off raining) the Summer of '02 ended and Fall semester 2002 began. This morning my supervisor and I teamed up to form and elite, web streaming force. Together, we sent the pomp and circumstance of PLU's Fall 2002 Convocation to the viewing world over the internet. Nearly 50 people partaked in our Windows Media-based broadcast and we a had a good time providing it. For us the task is merely nabbing the video program that TV Services spits out. We do a good deal of prep to make sure links work and program description information is online but once the show starts, everything pretty much takes care of it self. Now, I don't want to sound like too much of a Microsoft ad but it works pretty well. To make things even funner, I constantly took screen shots of the program, cut them out, and inserted select views of Convocation on the description website for the 'cast. A little nerdy but it was fun.

The rest of the day bunched up with a couple meeting, catching up with communications, and tidying up a couple different facets of projects. Oh, and I started Chinese 101. Yup. Your truly can say nearly 5 words in the language that 1/6 of the world's population speaks. I chose to take a seemingly difficult language not because I excelled in Spanish in high school (kinda' stunk) but because of a Music & Culture class I took last year. One section of the class focused on Chinese Opera and we had a chance to hear some of the sounds of the language. With a PLU requirement looming overhead, I decided to sign up and see what happens. I consider myself a different student now that I primarily work and take one class at a time. Doesn't make homework fun but at least I feel like I can focus on what studying I do accomplish. As for now, "Nǐ hǎo!" (means "How are you? How do you do?" -- that's one of the phrases I learnt -- ain't that cool?)
