I know a Seattle Stars star

The local talent competition Seattle Stars crowned its newest star last night. And I know her. I tuned in while sick last Saturday night and did a double take when it came to one of the contestants Rachel. I couldn't quite figure out my sense when I first saw some promo clip but I figured it out pretty soon thereafter. She went to my high school (Hudson's Bay) and was involved in some of the same art-related activities as I. I was more closely involved with her older sister Erica because we were the same age and in jazz choir together. The funny part was that, when Rachel sang on the show, I could still hear tones and syllables I recognized from both sisters back pre-1997! I consulted a pile of photos I knew I had of then-Rachel and, sure enough, it was definitely her.

I hope they're both doing well but thought my Bay alum readers out there would get a kick out of this. Last night during the show's finale, I even saw Erica in a dark audience shot. It's funny how people can change over nearly 10 years but what's funnier is how they don't change.

Congrats Rachel on your Seattle Stars win! I can't say what I saw of the competition was very impressive but you definitely could hold a note better than anyone out there. Nice work and enjoy your winnings (plus you got to meet Chris Ballew -- how cool is that?)!

I don't know either sister of which you write. Then again, I'm a few years older and have spent time drinking away high school memories. So there you are.

Heya Kevin! I found your blog when I was stalker-searching for any coverage of Rach's win last night. I'm so glad you saw her, we're so proud and Britta and I are so happy living vicariously through her since she totally kicks our butts.

Hope life's good? Mine is.

Isn't this all so fun?!? I went up to Seattle to be in the studio during her first taping and was busting with pride. She is so amazing and keeps getting better! I just think it's so funny that the three of us (Er, Rach and I) are still so close. And Er is right, we are TOTALLY living vicariously through her...

The girl's got talent! Nice job up there in front of those cameras, Rach. Can't be easy! It seriously was strange tuning into the show on Sat. and seeing her -- I didn't know if the prescription they had me on while sick made me see things or what. It was fun to watch nevertheless! Pretty colors and all!

Congratulations to Rachel. The clip sounded great, and I remember her being part of Bay's fine-sounding choir.

Of course, I didn't know her all that well in high school because Amanda Peachey built me up as some sort of brainiac nutjob. Rachel told me she was intimidated by me... 'cause I was sooo elitist in high school. :)

Congratulations to her nonetheless. Props for chasing dreams.

HAHA! This is so funny! Thanks for watching Kevin even though I only went to Bay for a semester. :-) It is true what Erica and Britta say though - I have friends for life from those few months. Thanks again!

Um, I totally didn't have to build Matt up as a brainiac nutjob, by the way. But I'm so proud of Rachel and she's a totally rockin' singer. Good job Rach! I missed the show but saw the clip online.

I think it's great that you all remember someone now that she won something, but she'll never be a real star in the major leagues, not based on what I saw. Still, a local win is better than nothing, I wonder if she went to the Grammy awards?
