St. Helens Cafe brings the 'yum'
Sarah and I stopped by to check out St. Helens Cafe yesterday for some dinner. This was Sarah's second trip and my first. I have to hand it to them. The space is great and the people manning host duties and keeping an eye on the dining area were eager to please but in a pleasant way. We ordered right at the door and sat in the back near the windows. On the way we passed a rather empty looking bar with a great metalwork mural of Mt. St. Helens. There was art of other local buildings adding interest to other walls and the large wood beams left exposed create a comfortable, warm feeling for diners.
Sarah got her fish 'n chips and with their homemade batter and tarter sauce declares them the best in town. I had me a bacon cheeseburger and, although not normally a burger man much (I likes me some buffalo, thank you very much) it was really tasty. The fries hit the spot with a little malt vinegar drizzled on top.
St. Helens Cafe is a great place for a casual meal in a comfortable setting. The prices are a tad high but worth it overall I think. I can't wait to stop by when the weather's better to enjoy their front patio or a seat inside near the garage doors that look prime to slide open.

I did like it -- and, like I said, not much of a burger man myself. With so many strangely flavored and adorned burgers and sandwiches out there, it's nice for such a simple sandwich to taste good.

This place has the ability to really take off this summer with the garage doors open, especially now that they serve beer.

I had lunch today at St. Helen's Cafe and was wonderfully surprised. I had passed the Cafe on my way home a number of times, and had been meaning to stop by...now i wish i had sooner. It's a lovely intimate restaurant with open spaces that still maintains a nice quiet atmosphere - and then we had lunch - my friend had the salmon and simply stopped talking to me - totally into the food - i had the bacon cheeseburger - imagine a cheeseburger with real (not pressed) meat, real cheese and a complete layer of thick bacon...and the fries!!!! wow!! Just Go -stop reading, get in the car and Just GO!!!!
