Time to finish the rain barrel
I just went downstairs to feed the kitties and realized it'd been raining pretty steadily for some time tonight. The local weather radar showed us in a patch of orange-red. That's some heavy rains. I took a peek out at our rain barrel and noticed a wet mess all over our deck. Turns out the little spiggot I have at the bottom of the thing wasn't enough to handle the wash coming off the roof. Without an overflow as wide as the incoming gutter it flowed over alright but onto the deck instead of down into the storm drain. Yeah, so, as I mentioned, it's time to finish that project. For now I'm bypassing the rain barrel all together so I can drain it, dry it, and finish it up.
I'll also provide an update about the minor mudslides I mentioned a couple days ago. This morning I noticed one spot with a much wider swath that had slid. It still looked like mostly topsoil slipping but, after tonight's rains, it could turn into more. Stay tuned there...
I've also made a couple minor additions to my homepage. The first is a little "New!" button to help draw attention to anything I've posted within the last day or so. There's now also a "hot topics" section that does a little math to determine what some of the most popular entries on my site are. Enjoy and have a great night!

I feel your pain! I too had a similar overflow problem. I created and now market a better rain barrel. Take a look and let me know what you think :-)
