Pole in the Plaza
On the way to work this morning Sarah and I noticed a bit of activity in the Plaza downtown. A large, wooden pole is being installed by city crews. Take a look:

Anyone have an idea what it might be? I'm sure it's sitting in the stand where a tree for the holidays is suppose to reside so is this just a test for that? Could it be a fun art project or even something on which to anchor a large cover to keep folks out of the elements during the rainy months? How 'bout a new cellphone tower?
Heck, any activity at all in the Plaza is a good thing, imho.

I hope it is Christmas tree practice!

If they plan to go that big with a tree I'll be floored. I guess that's about as tall as the one they have outside the Broadway Center.

How about new digs for the TacomaGnome so that the FUN can continue with this "lite hearted" lover of Tacoma and all the good things about this CITY !

I am thinking it is the test for the cities Festivus pole.

I'm glad you mentioned Festivus first, Droid.
And yes, Dale, perhaps a tree-dwelling gnome home would be nice.

To add to the "need for T.Plaza to shape an identity of usefullness ", could we have those outstanding colored flags that lined the upper rails during the music/food/festival about a month ago become permanent as soon as the weather permits in 08? Say April-June 08? The lights used last holiday season (I believe white-maybe colored ?) also need to appear again this year
and be left UP thru January 08-we had many, many positive comments from guests visiting and riding the LINK who felt welcomed
and warmed (like Hot Chocolate !) in TACOMA,WA. in December away from home .
Yes ? No ?

They are running more power to the Courtyard and just decided to cut across the vacant lot.
Ok. maybe not.
At Project for Public Spaces we discussed using a center pole to create a large half tent to shelter the Plaza during the rainy months.

Marty: That would be incredible. Though I would imagine if a recommendation like there were taking place someone would've heard about it.

Did the Dome Distric's palms self-sow? I am all for the tropical look. Just add sand and it will be the lonely island it feels already.....

You nailed mailed it Marty. Fortunately, it appears only to be temporary.
