2007 Tour of Urban Living ~ Thea's Landing
After [re]viewing the Roberson we headed down to a now veteran of downtown living space. Thea's Landing may have just the ticket if waterfront apartments (with a few condos on top) are more your thing. I thought our former rental home was steep but $2,200 at Thea's Landing is easily about the same as a payment on a $350K or so house. If you don't like to be tied down to a mortgage then this place could work well for you. Here are some of our likes and dislikes:
Likes
- impressive sound dampening in building lobby despite 7-engine trail rolling by across the street - merely heard low, tolerable hum
- colorful, shapely hallways are a nice touch over bland, flat, straight walls
- great views of marina and Mt. Rainier even from the 3rd floor unit we looked at
- decent sized unit so, for the price, at least they're not skimping on space
- wonderful courtyard raised from main waterfront boardwalk makes nice "back yard" for residents
Dislikes
- large, apartment complex feel
- bland flooring/carpet
- overall finish work inside unit seems common if not downright cheap
- street-level commercial/retail is nearly barren
- current access to Dock Street cumbersome but will get better once "D" Street overpass complete
So, no huge list of dislikes or likes so I'd waver somewhere in the middle on this one. No real charm outside of the views but, heck, for some people, that's enough. Maybe when/if Dock Street itself wakes up a bit and has it's own life (e.g. great shops, more food, a little night life, etc) Thea's Landing may suit more people.

Nice! These bathrooms were a lot less horrendous than the ones on the pictures from The Robertsons - but, again with the carpet. Also, the I'm not sure I'd pay 2200 for it though - I'd rather get equal quality for less, outside of downtown.
