They say it comes in 3's
I promise I'm not complaining here because there are plenty of worse things to worry about in the world. Heck, maybe that's why I'm not bothered so much as I could be by our recent bout with negative home owner luck. So, last week the power went out. I'm not talking in that flood-induced kinda' way but just out.
This week's crapper came in the form of a bit of a clunking thump then what sounded like tons of rain outside. Just after I got ready for bed last night I heard those two sounds in a row and quickly put it together. It wasn't raining outside and the kitty didn't cause the clunk/thump. I jumped up and found the problem -- it was our water heater. Seems the bottom of it was corroded enough for it to crumple at the base (the thump) which let all its 50 gallons of water leak (the rain) mostly through pipe holes into the crawl space with some spilling onto the bathroom floor. All in all, it could've been worse. Heck, we were even thinking of changing our water heater to a tankless one anyway. I guess sometimes fate just helps make the decision for you.
I even got a call from my buddy Steve to give me his support and to give me fair warning. Warning that this sort of stuff comes in three's. I'm usually one to subscribe to the "wave" theory that good and bad things tend to come in waves. Whatever the case, if we're signed up for three's, I wonder what the last ding will be? Maybe this was the last one considering my bare foot run-in with kitty vomit. Any guesses?

Make sure the furnace is OK. I think you've covered all the major stuff.

Moving to a tankless water heater is one of the major things we have been talking about for our new place. I'd love to hear what you decide on and how the install goes.
