'Truck Sleeping' and other Canadian sports

Since the NHL hockey season has been officially canceled Matt and I decided to shepard in our own brand of sport to the Great White North. Last night/this morning we endured a patchy schedule of sleep in the cab of our moving truck. Aside from sleep we took shifts to stay awake and guard the stuff in the back. This gave us plenty of time to allow our feet to become ice pops, gaze at the surrounding businesses, and take trips to the local Blenz coffee joint to use the restroom and buy tea or coffee. It was a long and strange night that, despite some shifty looking characters that occasionally passed by (one of which vocally admired my car's headlights), we made it through.

Our plan this morning was to recharge our parking permit at six o'clock for another two hours. At that time we'd try Matt's building manager again in hopes that he didn't skip town for the duration of the weekend. This was not a scenario we enjoyed thinking about because it involved a) more nights in the truck or b) taking everything back to Seattle. Nothing came of the 8am phone calls and now the lot meter reader came by about every half hour. Thankfully the daylight was upon us and our alertness rose greatly with the morning sun. At one point Matt left to pay a visit to his building and happily radioed back that the front doors were propped open and we could move stuff in immediately -- the manager showed up. I shook off some morning frost, packed up our make-shift bedding (sleeping bag, pillow, and moving blanket) and we made haste for Haro Street and unloaded that truck in a fit of sleepy determination.

Once everything was in Matt's place we simply couldn't believe it. Having enjoyed his time driving and our time sleeping in the moving truck Matt couldn't wait to dump that slug off at the local U-Haul. We scoured town for a supposed drop-off location that didn't actually exist then decided, before our next try, we'd take my car to scout things out then navigate the truck through the urban landscape. With a hearty "F--- you!" we ditched the truck and walked around to accomplish a couple errands and eat some lunch at a nearby pub.

The day was certainly a memorable one but I'm completely happy that Matt's now moved into his place and ready to start his planned adventure in art school. We made it back to West Seattle and Kelly's house in the early evening hours. I downed some water and a homemade cookie to recharge my batteries for the last leg home to Tacoma. My original plan was to join Sarah in Vancouver, WA today but simply couldn't make it happen in my post-truck sleeping state. I made it home without any trouble and easily fell asleep before I even hit the pillow.

I think I would have had a F--- you for the manager as well.

Yeah, but we were so intent on just getting everything moved that we didn't dwell on it. The manager could've had an emotional reaction that we certainly didn't want to deal with whereas the inanimate truck accepted our verbal and visual abuse honorably.

Turns out, according to Matt, that the building manager was in the building all along working on one of the apartments. He supposedly gets shoddy reception in there and didn't know why his voicemail didn't pick up. Funny how things turn out, isn't it?

That's not me but thanks. Oh, and that truck royally stunk. I do understand, however, some trucks are newer than others and I've had pretty decent experiences with the others. Bottom line: moving trucks aren't meant to be fun. If so, their theft rate would likely be higher.
