Making my vote stretch further
I voted in the new Washington state primary this morning before heading to work. Although the national elections are particularly important this year I didn't want to neglect the issues and positions here in my own state. Local congresspeople, the governor's office, judgeships, and a handful of issues were put to the people today. A new primary system wherein a voter can only choose one party for any partisan position is a controversial one but one that I'm not completely opposed to. In the past I liked to think of myself a open-minded enough to vote for the best candidate no matter what his/her party affiliation. Well, that's just not going to be the case when it comes to the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Were the Green party on the ballot I may have taken issue with not being able to spread my vote between them and the Dems.
After I connected the arrows with my pen I double checked the ballot and slide it into a machine that beeped a "thank you" beep and incremented the number on its little screen to "11". Thanks for counting my vote, little machine. I'll make sure to remember your kind when you're replaced by video poker-like superiors that count my vote but don't offer any payouts.
