Winfield's and Twisted Cue opening April 1 (no foolin')

The reported spring re-opening of the former David's on Broadway looks to be moving along nicely. Winfield's and the Twisted Cue Club have a banner up and there's also plenty of hiring going on out there on the Internets. The latest from Winfield's HR person is that the new opening date is April 1st and I've been assured that's no joke. They're still looking for a few cooks so spread the word.  Hopefully they'll get those positions filled and trained so we can all enjoy some higher-end but moderately priced food and a spot or two of billiards. Renovation isn't complete but I'm told is coming along nicely.

Can't wait to have yet another option for great food here in Tacoma.

Great historical building. Great location and a commanding view.

Here's a good quote from their site:

"Located at 539 Broadway Tacoma, Washington 98402, in historic “David’s Mansion” The club offers a truly unique, un-paralleled entertainment experience. The mansion, built in 1888, sits perched along a hill side with an un-obstructed view of Tacoma’s Commencement Bay. Formerly the “University Union Club” and “David’s on Broadway” restaurant, the mansion has recently undergone a complete renovation, with special attention to the mansion’s architectural styling’s and rustic charm.

The club offers fine dining at an affordable price, Menus prepared by master chef Thomas Mott, AKA “Chef Thomas”( Formerly Chef of Spirit of Puget Sound Cruises, Lake Union Café, and other High Class Restaurants. Your dining experience will be complimented by views of Tacoma’s Commencement bay, and beautiful Mount Rainer. Boasting an 1100 square foot deck, out door dining is a must. This may just be the perfect place to relax and dine while viewing the area’s annual “International Tall Ships Festival” or Fourth of July fireworks displays. The same dining experience and attention to customer care can be had throughout the entire club. Oh, did I mention daily breakfast Buffet, a Sunday Brunch, on-site bakery and full Espresso Service? Chef Thomas has something in the works to please even the most discriminating palate.

It'll be great to have something in that spot.

A few weekends ago, I took a walk with the kids from St Helens and Division to antique row. There were a few places where there wasn't anything open in sight. It was nice to think that in a little while, there might be a grocery store on one corner, and a huge restaurant down the hill. Two large, occupied businesses would make a huge difference in terms of "eyes on the street," and provide some continuity from the cool little cluster of businesses on St. Helens to antique row. (which really seems to be suffering right now) ...And now that I think about it, isn't the Mecca also along that route?

Oh yea, the Mecca pub theater -- I can't wait!

I agree, the more life around there the merrier. There are so many great spaces around there that filling some up now might be nice so they don't all get bulldozed for condos.

The best model to have is condos or apartments above with retail on the first floor. The Mecca is going to follow this model.

The condo at 505 Broadway is going to have a restaurant in it as well.

Seeing David's restored is great as it brightens up a key part of downtown and the entrance to antique row. Plus, it helps out a historical building.

There has been a bit of chatter in my comments starting here: http://www.sparkrobot.com/2005/07/20/tacoma-restaurants/#comment-2919

I saw that earlier, thanks sparkrobot!

Erik: I am happy such an elderly building is being given a new lease on life. Hopefully they'll have good neighbors soon there in the Elks.

I just stopped by Winfields tonight. Yes, its officially open. Check it out.

The restaurant was buzzing.

However, they are "dry" and still have not obtained their liquor license ytr. The ppol room is open.

They have three rooms : restaurant, club/bar and pool room in the basement.

I had lunch at Winfields last week. The food was great as was the service. It's just little quiet in there. I would like to see some ambient music of somesort but I think they have a winner in Winfields. Also, I believe the building will get painted here shortly which will make a huge difference.
