Prium updates Economic Development Council re: Winthrop
An afternoon meeting of the Economic Development Council today had Prium providing an update about the Winthrop. The replacement low-income housing was the key topic the City wanted to hear about considering a loan to Prium from Tacoma is contingent upon that happening. Here are a couple highlights:
- two sights are being currently being considered by Prium to be purchased from the City: one at 34th and Pacific [ map ] and one somewhere along Tyler (can anyone figure out where?)
- the 34th and Pacific location could hold 50 units, the one on Tyler 80
- a location where the old Brown's Grill is in Upper Tacoma was considered but local backlash halted the idea
It'll be interesting if this "not in my neighborhood" mentality will occur anywhere Prium looks to relocate Winthrop residents. My hope is that, although costs for Prium would surely be higher, they have a chance to aim for smaller developments in more places around town. Nevertheless, glad to see no one's completely forgot about the Winthrop nor its current tenants.

Good news. Hang in there Prium.
You have the ball now, having outbid the Quigg group. Don't drop it now.
Godspeed.

34th & Pacific? yeah, right. Like Stanley & Seaforts would go for that idea. Tyler St. would likely cost less but would still not be popular. Keep looking Prium.

How about near Proctor? Why does the southend have to absorb all these low-income housing projects. Suggest Evans welcome his neighborhood to Prium first.

Here's the latest from the Index:
"Prium chief operating officer Peter Ansara told committee members that the company would like any new development to be a blend of mixed-use and mixed-income housing. "Our edict is to do it as smoothly as we can by taking advantage of a model of mixed-use and mixed-income [housing]," said Ansara. "We won't be building a concentration of low-income housing."

I live at Pacific Tower. I've been doing upgrades to sell my condo. This just confirms to me I'm doing the right thing.
That's right, run 'em out of downtown to be someone else's problem!
