Our first Christmas

With a bit of prep Sarah and I pulled off our first ever Christmas hosted at home. Thanks to both our wonderful families for coming up and we hope you all had as great a time as we did -- although we did have leftovers! ;) The morning started out with some busy time in the kitchen by Sarah and her mom. They prepped a few items for dinner and set out volumes of tasty appetizers. I helped setup and tidy up and generally tried to dampen Sarah's obsessiveness any way I could so she could relax and realize the get-together would be lovely. Once my folks arrived all in one car from Vancouver we all dove into some of the food lying around and I made sure to inform everyone the only rule for the day was "no leftovers". I gave my brother and Sonya a tour of our place and talked with everyone a bit before Sarah's sister and boyfriend arrived.

Dinner was next and for the main entree we made a nice roast (yuck! -- not my fav) and a ham. Everyone else contributed to the meal things like twice-baked potatoes, deviled eggs, green beans, and dessert to fill all our tummies. After food, a toast or two, and delicious wine we moved into the main room to open all our stockings. This year we set the gift-giving tone by calling only for stocking stuffers as gifts. This would help defray the costs and overall commercialism of Christmas and let folks have some fun thinking of smaller gifts to give. I had a great time doing things that way and we're hoping everyone else did as well -- some pretty good reactions tell us it was a success.

The day soon wound down with some dessert before everyone left, some trying to beat the dark of night home. Thanks to everyone for coming up and sharing Christmas at home with Sarah and I. Although you somewhat disobeyed today's "no leftovers" rule, we really valued our time together. We missed those who couldn't be with us but only thought more of you having other family so near. As time marches forward opportunities to come together grow fewer with natural blossoming of each family and I hope that memories like today will help fill any possible missing seats at future holiday gatherings. Thanks again!

The humans had a great time, but Miss Lu is obviously the belle of the ball! Great food, great people, great stockings, great fun!
